Human Right Watch says fair elections in Pakistan not possible

Human Rights Watch today said that free and fair elections are not possible in Pakistan under the current political situation.

The New York-based rights watchdog said, “Genuine election is not possible while the media remains muzzled, leaders remain under arrest and legitimate judiciary replaced by handpicked supporters of the government”.

The watchdog released its new findings in an 84-page report that focuses on Pakistan’s crackdown on lawyers and judges after emergency was imposed in the country on November 3.

It said a large number of judges, lawyers were still under detention. (ANI)
