Focus on Constituent Assembly polls: Koirala tells feuding leaders
The political stalemate continues in Nepal with leaders of the Seven-Party Alliance expressing their weariness of Maoists' growing influence in the administration, particularly in the army.
The leaders of the SPA were today accusing the Maoists of trying to take control of power by integrating their cadres with the State army.
However, Koirala urged them to set the Constituent Assembly elections as their main objective, which he said would reduce the existing differences and result into a consensus.
Koirala also met Maoist leaders Prachanda and UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal at his official residence in Baluwatar.
The meeting was focused on the directives issued by the special House session to make an arrangement to declare the country a Republic and adopt fully proportional system for the Constituent Assembly elections, Kantipur online quoted General Secretary of CPN-Unity Center Narayan Kaji Shrestha, as saying.
During the hour-long meeting, Koirala urged Prachanda to show flexibility so that a consensus could be achieved, and it has been also learnt that he pointed out that unruly activities of Maoist cadres would weaken the prospects of constituent assembly elections, the Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
