Women bartenders back at their jobs, thanks to Supreme Court

Justices S B Sinha and H S Bedi also reduced the age limit of such bartenders from 25 to 21 years.

The apex court dismissed an appeal that challenged the employment of girls in bars and restaurants.

The High Court had earlier rejected the petition that demanded women should not be allowed to serve liquor. 

The judgment provides some respite to over a lakh women bartenders working here.

The court stated that each individual has a right to pursue his or her profession and should be given full freedom to work.

Earlier, the Delhi Government had asked the apex court to restore Section 30 of the Punjab Excise Act, which the Delhi High Court had struck down as unconstitutional last year.  (ANI)
