Kashmir celebrates Id, inspite of snowy weather

Despite a chilly weather, Muslims in Srinagar are busy preparing for one of their most important festivals, Eid-ul-Zuha.

Eid-ul-Zuha or Baqr-e-Eid, which will be celebrated on Friday, is a Muslim festival that marks the end of the Haj.

"It comes twice in a year, one is the smaller Eid and the other a bigger one when we sacrifice animals. No matter how cold it is, we do go for shopping. We shop for our children and other requirements for the festival," said Bilal Ahmad, a local.

Bakeries and cake shops had a very busy time with customers thronging their shops for last minute orders on the eve of the festival.

Ghulam Qadir, owner of a bakery said that business has been so brisk that they had to order for more supplies.

Muslims sacrifice the goats and distribute its meat among family, friends and the poor.

Muslims believe a sacrificed goat is a reflection of one's own spiritual sacrifice, and see it as essential for achieving communion with Allah.

For Muslims, Eid-ul-Zuha is a time to offer the perfect goat to the Prophet. (ANI)
