Media mogul Oprah Winfrey refuses to have VP candidate Sarah Palin on her show until after the election. "At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates," Oprah said in a statement. "I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show." Oprah's just terrified that Palin would be great on her show and sway some of her minions away from voting for Barack Obama in spite of the orders beamed into their implants. Whatever. It's her show. I wouldn't watch it if I was paid with a dumptruck of Keebler Coconut Chips Deluxe.

Emaciated twat Keira Knightley got a scare put into her when a fan went nuts over her refusal to acknowledge him. "The other day I was walking down the street and was really thinking about this book I'd been sent," the useless bitch explained. "You know when you're really in another place. Somebody jumped out and went, 'Keira Knightley!' I got such a shock; I couldn't say anything because I'd been thinking about the book and this guy took incredible offense and started hurling the most amazing abuse.

"He said, 'Who the fuck do you think you are? You're such a cunt.' All this, and I'm completely on my own.

Lindsay Lohan should dump Sam Ronson for Ugly Betty. First off, Betty is way more attractive than Sam, who would need serious work to even rise to the level of "ugly." Second, Betty works for a big fashion magazine and therefore scores lots of great freebies (though she obviously doesn't wear any of the good stuff). Third, I've heard she's a wizard with her tongue. Fourth, she's a fictional character so, you know, when you're tired of her you just change the channel.

Alec Baldwin doesn't only verbally abuse his own children - he also goes after other shows on NBC, the network that carries his program 30 Rock. "NBC hasn't done a fucking thing to help this show [30 Rock] at all," Baldwin recently ranted. "They've gone out of their way to wring the last drops out of My Name Is Earl and Scrubs. Those shows are done! They're cooked! Yet they do a one-hour episode of Earl. You've got to be fucking kidding me."

Unlike Alec's little daughter, My Name is Earl producer Greg Garcia is able to fight back. "[Baldwin] sounds like a psychotic narcissist," Garcia said. "Instead of blaming NBC, I think Alec should consider that some people in America may not want to watch a man who cusses out his own 11-year-old daughter on a phone message . . . Oh, and the reason NBC occasionally puts on an hourlong episode of Earl is because an hour of Earl gets better ratings than an Earl followed by a 30 Rock. It's called math, stupid."

Did he just call Alec Baldwin stupid? Doesn't he know that Alec Baldwin is the most brilliant man on the face of the earth? Alec is going to kick this guy's ass...by calling him a selfish pig over the phone. That's how tough guys get it done.

Even huge stars like Brad Pitt have aspirations they never lived up to and regrets they carry with them like horrible burdens all their lives. Brad said of his one great disappointment: "Every guy has fantasised about playing to an audience. I still play the guitar but at my age I know I suck. I love music but that dream has gone." Well, at least he has his great acting career and a loving wife and a bunch of children to make him happy instead.

Planet Green Desperately Needs More (and better) Content

I really want to like Planet Green, but everytime I tune in it seems the same two or three shows are on. The Emeril cooking show seems to always be on. Sometimes I think Planet Green should be called The Cooking Show. No wonder they get the votes on the website. Emeril has the dominant number of episodes. Not that it isn't a good show, but it is just on all the time. The Greensburg shows are on all the time too. I guess 24 hours is a lot of time to fill.

Now I really like Renovation Nation and Supper Club, which is the best show on the network. Of course I like Mario Menounnos "Hollywood Green" show, but whenever Hollywood and green are mixed, it always seems so hypocritical. The celebrities should show us their homes and cars too if they are going to show us their green 'hobbies.' We ain't mad, we're just jealous because the rest of us want riches and fame too. The celebrities [except for Ed Begley, Jr.] just should not act like they are just driving around in a Prius and depending on solar for all of their electricity in their one little hugely expensive retrofitted or constructed 'environmentally friendly' house.

I really wanted to like "Battleground Earth" featuring Ludacris and Tommy Lee. But there was no chemistry between the two principals and the competition just seemed contrived. The conversation stilted. This probably looked really good on paper though. I know I was excited to see how it would work out. It is just that the result ended up seeming to trivialize what are serious energy and environmental issues. I know you were gunning for viewers via the use of celebrities and a boring 'documentary-type' of energy or environment show sends viewers clicking away, but surely these topics can be made interesting and entertaining.

I guess you also know by now we are leading to letting us show what we can do. Oh? We need a major sponsor? No problem. We have one or more. Give us a call.

Former Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia may be released next week

The former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is languishing in a prison for over a year on graft charges, may be freed on bail by next week, claimed her lawyers.

A day after Zia’s elder son Tarique Rahman, who was being tried in a number of corruption charges was released, the Prothom Alo newspaper quoted one of Zia''''s counsels as saying, "We expect her to be released as she now needs bail from courts in only two cases."

However, a senior government leader said that she would have to go through legal procedures for her release.

The lawyer''''s comment came as Commerce Adviser of the interim cabinet Hossain Zillur Rahman said yesterday that the government was advancing the political process without hampering the legal procedure for the release of Zia, the chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Earlier, in June this year Zia''''s archrival Sheikh Hasina of Awami League was released on an executive order for treatment abroad. At that time the government had said that a process was underway to free the BNP chief in an identical manner.

After the January 11, 2007 proclamation of emergency in Bangladesh, both Zia and Hasina have been charged under a number of corruption cases as part of a massive anti-graft campaign launched by the interim government soon after its installation with military support. (ANI)

CEOs hired from outside firms more likely to be dismissed

A new study has revealed that CEOs hired from outside are more likely to be dismissed because Boards of Directors commonly make mistakes during their appointments.

For example, during CEO selection, the board of directors of the hiring firm knows less than the candidates regarding the person’s true competencies.

As a result, it is possible that the board makes a faulty hire and then dismisses the CEO shortly after the succession.

For the study, lead researcher Yan Zhang, associate professor of management, examined 204 company leaders from 1993 to 1998, out of which 55 left their job within three years.

It suggested that unbalanced information could negatively impact the selection of a new chief executive.

The researchers suggest that if they create nominating committees with leadership by outside directors, who tend to have broader perspectives on the skills of potential candidates, the problem of short-tenured external appointments can be avoided.

The study highlighted several factors that increase the chance that a newly appointed CEO will be dismissed or will succeed.

One major influence on failure arises from the fate of the predecessor CEO. In particular, failure tends to breed failure, such that the dismissal of the predecessor CEO substantially increases the likelihood that a newly appointed CEO will be dismissed.

By contrast, firms that create nominating committees that are led by outside directors are more likely to identify candidates who succeed in their new jobs.

“Results of this study can inform boards how to better manage the CEO succession process,” said Zhang.

“It highlights the importance of having an effective nominating committee on the board and offers caution with regard to the tendency of firms to look outside for their new CEOs,” Zhang added.

The study is published in the Strategic Management Journal. (ANI)
