Hollywood gearing up for movie on Diana inquest

After Helen Mirren making waves at the Oscars with ‘The Queen’, another epic on one of the most publicised members of the Monarchy may be in the pipeline — a Hollywood production on the life of Princess Diana.

With the proceedings on the Princess’s inquest at London’s Royal Courts of Justice taking a new turn everyday, it certainly makes up for the stuff that Hollywood movies are made of.

It has now been revealed that showbiz bigwigs are planning to make a courtroom-based film, with flashback scenes from Diana’s life, based on the dramatic proceedings of the inquest that started a decade after her death.

According to an executive, who works with Hollywood studio New Line Cinema, America has always been fascinated with the People’s Princess and it was given a new shake with the inquest.

“We’re all hooked by the inquest. It’s sensational. Diana was an amazing woman and she is still very much loved here in the US. There is talk of putting the latest court proceedings on film in a similar form to The Queen, which was a movie that everyone went crazy for over here,” The Daily Express quote the executive, as saying.

This has led Tinseltown bigwigs to think that the films would go well with the masses.

“I was working between London and LA when The Queen was released. No word of a lie but the buzz was bigger in the US. Some of the producers I work with have been talking about how well a movie about the Diana case would do. It would be The Queen meets A Few Good Men, I guess. I think once the inquest is over, at least one – perhaps two – productions will start shooting. It would be a box office smash,” he said.

Many developments in the inquest include how Diana thought she was being bugged by the security services, feared she would be assassinated and wanted son William to be made king over Charles.

It was also revealed how former PM Tony Blair flirted with Diana during a secret dinner party, while butler Paul Burrell was humiliated when his supposed “secrets” about the Princess’s life were revealed to be already well known. (ANI)
