Charlie Chaplin refused to celebrate ‘too commercialised’ Xmas

Late Hollywood legend Charlie Chaplin loathed Christmas to such an extent that he disliked his own family for celebrating the festivities.

Chaplin’s son Michael has revealed that the silent star snubbed the festival, branding Christmas "too commercialised."

"It really depressed him. My mother would always put a big tree in the house and we'd surround it with beautifully wrapped gifts, while my father would grow morose and complain about the commercialisation of Christmas,” Contactmusic quoted Michael, as saying.

"It reminded him of his hard childhood when he'd have no presents and no tree.

“He'd complain: 'If I got an orange as a child at Christmas I would be lucky,’” he added.

Ironically, Chaplin passed away on Christmas Day in 1977. (ANI)
