IOL Broadband in pact with MTNL for VoIP

MUMBAI (Reuters) - IOL Broadband Ltd said on Tuesday it has signed an agreement with state-owned telecoms firm Mahanagar Telephone Nigam to provide voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services.

VoIP involves sending voice information in digital form and using internet technology for its delivery.

The agreement will allow MTNL subscribers make calls all over the world at low rates, it said in a statement. The state-run firm already has an agreement with Aksh Optifibre Ltd to provide VoIP services.

In the first year, IOL is planning a capacity of 100 million minutes, going up to 1 billion minutes in two years, it said.

IOL also said that it would provide videophones to all its broadband subscribers along with VoIP phone and teleconferencing services.
