India share index extends gains to more than 2 pct

BANGALORE (Reuters) - Indian shares extended their rise to more than 2 percent in afternoon trade on Friday, powered by Reliance Industries Ltd and ICICI Bank Ltd after economic growth data boosted sentiment.

India's economy grew an annual 8.9 percent in the September quarter, marginally above forecasts.

At 2:56 p.m., the main 30-share BSE index was up 2.18 percent, or 415.14 points, at 19,418.40, with 26 components gaining.

The 50-issue NSE index was up 2.58 percent at 5,780.15 points.
