Bid to make Cyprus a business bridge with China

Some of the best of China will go on show next week at the International Merchandising Centre in Nicosia, the capital of the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus, as a drive to establish Cyprus as a regional bridge for Chinese business gathers momentum.

More than 200 Chinese companies will be participating in an event seen as an important step in entrenching Cyprus’s position as a regional business centre. It will be followed by a permanent exhibition of Chinese products and services that aim to offer an opportunity to businessmen of the region to explore and discuss investment and trade opportunities in China, without having to make the long journey to the east.

Chinese Ambassador Zhao Yali hailed the exhibition as an important event that would contribute to further boosting relations between the two countries.  “ Cyprus’s geographical position and membership of the EU give it a significant role in the region, particularly as regards trade,” Yali said.
